EU police targets human trafficking at Prague airport

Prague, March 9 (CTK) - Police patrols composed of police from EU countries are focusing on the uncovering of people trafficking and trading at the Prague-Ruzyne airport, Czech foreigner police spokeswoman Katerina Rendlova told CTK Tuesday.

Joint checks by Czech police and their opposite numbers from Germany, Estonia, Portugal and the Netherlands started working at the airport last week.

Referring to secrecy, the foreigner police have declined to elaborate on the ongoing Hammer operation.

Joint checks by EU police focus on high-risk departures, arrivals of passengers from Third World countries and on forged passports.

“The police in their national uniforms are under the command of Czech police and go by the law of the Czech Republic,” Rendlova said.

Czech police are serving at another European airport, she added.

“It is an exchange operation under the headline of the European agency Frontex associating the border police from all EU countries,” Rendlova said.

The foreigner police have said this is not a unique operation. Similar operations, though with a different focus, are constantly taking place at the Prague airport.
